My recent interview with the ever-so fascinating, Bob Newhall!
…When did you start to develop your artistic passion?
“Ever since I was really short!”
Bob has such a passion for art and clearly he has talent in that department. As I started in on my first few structured interview questions, I quickly threw those out the door and we just started talking. Throughout our conversation, I learned so much more about the humble man than a series of questions could answer. Interviewing Bob was like catching up with an old friend….and with a personality like that, he fits in at any event!
Bob grew up in Bozeman, MT and had a family cabin in the Bridger Mountains, where he did some skiing and a lot of drawing! Bob eventually went on to college at MSU to study architecture. Although architecture was his major, he continued to pursue his passion for art, spending as much time as possible in the art department. Upon graduation, Bob spent most of his working career in Berkley, CA, handcrafting one-of-a-kind wood furniture. Bob also did some sculpting, painting, and of course, drawing.
Bob’s artistic talent has only continued to grow. Throughout his life, he was always drawn toward the happiness of people dancing, and the atmosphere musical instruments bring to an occasion. This is how his career evolved into one as a wedding artist. As Bob put it, “I sit in the corner and draw all night long.” Bob will come to your wedding, sketch away (in the corner) and then add in his personal watercolor touch. “I find weddings to be such a wonderful experience, with all of the smiles, everyone having a good time, and everyone in fancy attire.” He also does events other than weddings such as dress rehearsals, bar events, and musical gigs. He will do anything…as he was proud to admit he’s even sketched a rap concert in his career!
Today, Bob resides in Livingston, MT where he shares space in Gallery O. The art scene in Livingston is something to really check out, according to the accomplished artist.
Want to meet Bob? It’s never too early to start thinking about the holiday of love, Valentine’s Day! Bob, along with two other local artists, Traci Islay and Ona Magaro, will be hosting an art inspired Valentine’s Day show on February 6th, starting around 7pm at Gallery O. Heart sculpting, paintings, and glasswork are a few things to expect!
Your wedding day is such a special event that you will cherish forever. When planning your special day, keep Bob in mind as you add in all those unique touches to make your day that much more memorable!
